Yes….. it is not working.

The other day I stopped at the post office to drop off a number of packages. That were all ready to go and normally I could just put them in the larger tumbler drop box. But this day, it would not open. Most likely a jammed box on the other side. I went to the desk and left my packages at the end, and mentioned to the clerk that was helping another customer, that the drop box was not working. Her reply, “it is working, it just has too many packages and we haven’t had time to empty it.” Well, to me, that would mean it is not working, as I mentioned. Don’t know if it was a defensive comment on her part or just stupidity.

I must say, overall, I am very pleased with shipping via USPS. Fast delivery, free supplies and typically cheaper than FedEx or UPS (for smaller packages).

It’s not the F**king paper!!!

So I went to an elderly friend’s house to fix her computer issue. It was that her printer was no longer working. While I am trying to fix the spoiler issues she kept saying is it the paper. Do I need to load the paper in a special way. No!!!! It’s not the paper.

I should gave stayed in bed

Ever have one of those days where everything seems to go wrong. Today started with a customer internet down. The issue was their router. Most likely a heat related cause. I stopped out to swap it with a spare. Onsite, I wanted to make sure I had the latest config, so I fired up my laptop, TFTP, SSH and was ready to transfer the start-up config. That is when it all went downhill. The transfer would not start. I checked a few things and then assumed my windows firewall was blocking it. I went to change the firewall settings, but received an error. I checked and the firewall was not started, yet it was being blocked. I checked a the services and when I received repeated dependency errors I turned to one of the MS Fix-It solutions. It came back with the error that it could not be fixed due to Kaspersky. I checked my Kaspersky, and even though I never enabled any fire-walling, it was doing port monitoring. I decided that is BS and uninstalled Kaspersky (note it is the antivirus only edition, yet it still has an NDIS driver that was causing issues). After the necessary reboot following the unisntall, I received a BSOD referring to one of the Kaspersky drivers. I chose a boot using last known good profile. This worked, but….. I now had no mouse by the touchpad, or by my wireless mouse. After f**king with that for 45+ minutes I said screw it and put my flash drive in a user PC to finish the router config.

I moved on to a wiring job and their programmer stopped me to say that a remote user couldn’t access the payroll system. I pulled out my laptop, hoping to fix then remote to their PC. Another hour lost. Now it is 2pm and I still haven’t fixed the remote PC. I try to use one of the servers for remote access and the KVM comes up a cable disconnected which then requires a reset.

I know at this point I am not going to get any wiring done before 4pm (time I had to leave to get the kids from day camp), so I leave to use my office PC.

From my office I fix the remote PC,  and finally resolve the mouse issue after another hour and finding a Kaspersky FULL removal tool.

I like Kaspersky, but I just want virus scanning. I don’t need a network or mouse hook.

What a waste of a day.

Play Ball

Sitting enjoying my son’s little league game. Can never understand the necessity of parents to call out the obvious. After the pitcher throws a ball high, mom yells out “bring it down”. No shit, really?

Other parents yell, “you got it”, or “one more” (referring to strikes).

Oh well….. play ball!

This is why I can’ have nice things

I am doing a wiring job for a customer. It is impractical to take everything home each night and it would seem I would not have to as contractors leave their gear at the site each day and night during a project or build. So it wouldn’t seem unreasonable for me to leave a 4ft fiberglass ladder, eight boxes of CAT5e and a pail of nylon pull cord and have it be left alone or remain undamaged. Not so. I arrived back today after not being there Monday do to scheduling of other jobs. I arrived to find my week old ladder covered in joint compound dust and droppings. OK, I can deal with that. It comes off. They used my ladder as I have used their’s. Although, I never spilled anything on their’s. But, the item that totally pissed me off was my 6500 foot pail of nylon cord. Seems they spilled paint all over the top and through the hole in the lid, coating the cord with paint. I had to discard ~400 feet to remove the painted portion. What the F*CK! Respect other peoples SH*T!

I’m glad I lug my 50lb bag of tools home every night. Who knows what would happen to them.

Stupid telephone guy

I customer of mine is moving a branch office location and needs their network moved and new wiring for voice and data. I pull new lines and work with the Internet vendor on the backboard for the gear. The installer puts up a 2×2 back board above their current one and arranges his equipment nicely on the top leaving me plenty of space. I mounted a 24 port patch panel and 66 block leaving space above the patch panel for the switch and firewall/router and space below for the phone system to be moved.

Fast forward to the next day when I return to move the network gear, only to find that the moron phone guy moved the patch panel up and put the phone system in the middle of the board and mounted power adapters below the system rather than on the side which would have left the patch panel in place. Incompetence at its best, plus he mounted to crooked.

Take away lesson, grab a sharpie and clearly mark DO NOT MOVE, SPACE FOR NETWORK EQUIPMENT.

You F**king Douche Bag!!!

A friend recommended helpdeskvnc as a greet remote support software, so i thought I would give it a try. I downloaded and installed. While installing, I thought something was up as my Chrome browser closed. I reopened it and restored my tabs as it was not shutdown properly. The software is not what I want so I uninstalled and went to search for UltraVNC, only to find out that the DOUCHE set Bing as my default search provider with his refer code! FU!!!! What an A-Hole! No matter how good his software could be, I will NEVER use it for bullshit move like that.

Can’t I just get a burger?

After my Mac attack I stopped at Wendy’s for a burger. I like Wendy’s. They have the best burgers out of the nationwide fast food chains. However, today getting what I wanted was not so easy. Mind you, if this is the worst thing in my day, I am a lucky man, but it is frustrating asking for a burger no cheese, no pickles and no mustard, I get a burger with all three. I bring it back and this time no cheese, no mustard, but still pickles. They are easy enough to remove, so I moved on. I never worked in fast food, but how hard is it to make such a simple item. Almost every time I order a hamburger (anywhere), not a cheese burger, a hamburger, it has cheese.  Well enough petty rambling.

Macs SUCK !!!!

Well today I had the misfortune of working on a Mac. I avoid them as much as possible. What a crap OS!!! I am not an apple hater, and if this is what you like then good luck. The iPhone, iPad and iPods are all fantastic but the desktop OS is horrible. I was called to fix a Parallels issue and because some genius decided to have one menu that changes as the application changes, I couldn’t get to the right menu as it kept changing and I would click the app.

No wonder Microsoft remains the desktop and server undisputed champ.
